Hi, Kevin. I ran across your blog while googling a post from my blog and thought it was quite a coincidence that my first two posts coincided with two of yours regarding eating out on a diet (must be diet season!). Anyway, just wanted to comment on your Moe's post -- partially because I'm excited that you actually know what Moe's is, and also to let you know that the fat content of the salads that you posted about is slightly misleading. The majority of the fat in the salad is due to the fried tortilla bowl that it comes in. If you order it "streaker style," there is very little fat in this salad. I think you pulled your graphic from the Moe's site, so you know there's nutritional info available there -- try clicking on the "streaker" option and see what happens.

Here is a link to my blog post for reference:

Good luck with your biggest loser competition!

Kevin,

I performed a google search as follows: provident funding appraisal denial. As a result, I came up with your name. I believe there are thousands in the same boat as us and that the loan denials is based rates going up after we locked in. If so, there may be an incredible class action lawsuit against Provident Funding. Your thoughts?

Kevin,

I was refinancing about the same time you were. It was for a 2nd house to which I had recently moved (hadn't even made the first payment on the original mortgage yet). My other house was on the market, I'd moved to take a new job in a different state. I was looking to reduce the payments on the 2nd house because it was tough carrying 2 mortgages.

I first went to Wells Fargo, which held the mortgage on my 1st house and I'd been happy with them. But Wells would not approve me. The Wells broker I dealt with went to an independent broker friend of his who submitted me to Provident Funding at an acceptable rate with 0 points. Provident wanted a new appraisal even though the original was only 3 months old. The new appraisal came in a little lower than the previous one but still left me with a downpayment of about 21-22%. At first I was told that the new appraisal was fine and the deal was a 'go', but a few weeks later as closing approached I was told that because of concerns with the appraisal I would have to pay 1 point to keep the rate I was offered. I argued and didn't want to pay the point but also didn't want to accept a higher interest rate as it would have defeated the purpose of the re-finance. I ended up getting the original rate and paying 1/2 point. I never did find out what the issue over the appraisal was.

I wasn't happy about having to pay the 1/2%, but I was happy to get refinanced (and originally financed) at all given that I was carrying 2 mortgages, Wells Fargo didn't want me, and in truth one or the other of the mortgages would now be in default if I hadn't been able to rent the 1st house when I gave up on trying to sell it.

You are right. Renting a 4WD can be difficult in some areas. We rented a jeep in Hawaii once to do some exploring and they made us sign an extra waiver saying that we would not take it "off-road".

We moved to Carova from DE ourselves and I always suggest to friends & family up there who don't have a 4WD to just rent one from up there and put all the wear and tear on that instead.

Thanks for the idea of the subscription. Looks like a pack of 40x4 (160) cost 44.20 when you subscribe. The coupon code you provided must have expired. Oh well, would be nice to find another one though.

Thanks.

Very informative post on Solatube Daylighting Systems.

I just have to clarify a few statements. The Solatube is not 1/2 anything. It is 100% a "tubular daylighting system" The purpose is to bring natural light in to the home, collecting the light on the roof of your home and directing that light through a highly reflective shaft and then dispersing the light through the home.

Additionally, I am not sure what Green Depot does or where they got their information on Solatube's 290 DS, however, my dealership has installed thousands of 290 DS ( 14") Solatubes in residential applications including kitchens, family rooms, bedrooms, stairwells, large bathrooms, hallways, etc.

Visit my website at www.solabrite.com to learn more about Solatube Daylighting Systems. We also have several very informative videos on the product.

Best,
John

Great post on Solatubes. They're a wonderful solution for the home, and I'm glad you enjoy it.

Since you seem interested in daylighting in general (you're right about those studies), check out http://www.sunflowerdaylighting.com. It's not really meant for the home, but it's a new daylighting system being developed in Colorado for commercial buildings. I do work for the company, but the system is just really cool in general if you like that kind of thing. (Neat pictures on the site at least). We think it will really improve the lives of people in commercial buildings just like you've noticed an improvement in your home.
